The First Annual Roosevelt Island Jazz and World Music Festival is coming as part of this year’s Fall for Arts celebration. The festival is programmed to reflect the cultural diversity of New York City, particularly on Roosevelt Island.
It all begins at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 22 at Gallery RIVAA (527 Main St.) with legendary guitarist Bruce Edwards and his Uptown Groove band. On Friday, September 23 at 7:00 p.m., the innovative Argentinian saxophonist Julio Botti will perform, joined by the South American Jazz Ensemble. On Saturday, September 24, during the Fall for Arts Festival (11:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.), award-winning vocalist Kiran Ahluwalia will appear with guitarist Rez Abbasi, performing her unique hybrid of Indian grooves and Saharan desert blues, mixed with elements of jazz. The Festival will conclude with internationally acclaimed guitarist Roni Ben-Hur and his Sounds of Brazil ensemble, playing classic Bossa Nova and Samba Jazz. All September 24 performances will be on the Meditation Steps, just south of 501 Main Street.
All events are free, but seating will be limited at Gallery RIVAA, with admission on a first-come, first-served basis.
