On November 8, all Roosevelt Island residents over age 18, whether a U.S. citizen or not, get to vote on resident leadership for the next two years. Voting takes place at P.S. 217 and (for Octagon residents) at The Octagon, 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
I love living and being a part of the community on Roosevelt Island. I would therefore like to do my part in improving aspects that will strengthen and further my community.
I am currently a resident in the Octagon. I was elected an Octagon RIRA representative in the previous election, but due to my non-traditional employment as a flight attendant, I missed meetings and was released from the board.
I’m hoping to help my community by being unselfish with my time and put forth the effort to the many causes and demands on Roosevelt Island. I’ve learned so much from attending the meetings and seeing the different interest groups and their efforts in trying to find a middle ground to aid our community in being a place to live in comfort, safety, and security.
After an almost 30-year career in the Navy and living all over the world, my husband and I moved to Roosevelt Island in the summer of 2015. We love the Island, the diversity of its residents, and the sense of community that is part of the fabric of what makes Roosevelt Island so unique.
We have become active members of Hope Roosevelt Island, supporters of local Island businesses, and plan on staying here for many years. In my past, I have been involved in similar resident organizations when we lived on military bases and always enjoyed the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of everyone around us. I welcome the opportunity to represent the residents of the Octagon as a member of the Roosevelt Island Residents Association.
