Letters: RISA and Women's March

Written by Judy Connorton. Posted in Volume 37, Issue 10 - February 4, 2017

To the Editor:

I want to acknowledge and thank Barbara Parker, president of the Roosevelt Island Senior Association, for RISA’s support of our involvement in the recent NYC Women’s March. She arranged space and supplies in the Senior Center on Saturday, January 14, so a few dozen or more of us Island women and girls could get together in solidarity to make signs to carry and wear in the January 21 march.

RISA provided the setting for an afternoon of purpose and exhilaration and the opportunity to meet Island women we may not have known earlier. We joined over 100 Roosevelt Islanders (men and women) who marched in Manhattan with so many others on January 21.

Thanks also to Sheila Berger Chazin, who organized our Island’s participation in the Women’s March, and for her ongoing work in alerting us to opportunities we can pursue in advancing such goals as basic human equality, support for Planned Parenthood, immigration reform, and many other reasons for which we marched.
