Letter: The annual RIRA Egg Hunt

To the Editor:

This past Saturday, two Roosevelt Island Senior Association (RISA) directors participated, with our fellow Island organizations, in what has become the annual RIRA Egg Hunt, put on for the community’s young children.

It was bitter cold and the wind chose not to let up. The good news is that the 70% prediction for rain didn’t come true, but the bluster and cold sure made up for the lack of rain!

We were able to be part of this event, representing RISA. We managed the two tables set up for the free book giveaway. The turnout, despite the chilly weather, was incredible! And it was wonderful to see how anxious our young neighbors (and their parents) were to get their free (donated) books, many of them in Japanese, some in Chinese, and a few in French, German, and in various other languages as well as, of course, English.

RISA was very happy to participate in this neighborly event, and we commend one of RIRA’s newest members, the Egg Hunt sub-committee chair, Irena Durkovic, for doing a fine job – particularly in light of the short notice given by Manhattan Park of the venue change. Adaptation is a strong indication of the ability to survive, and all worked out in spite of that one glitch, and so, as Shakespeare said: “All’s well that ends well,” and this event went very well indeed.
